Academic Excellence Rooted in Catholic Faith

Frassati Catholic Academy Middle School offers a structured, rigorous academic program integrated by the Catholic intellectual and moral tradition. The middle school years are treated as a decisive stage of academic and personal formation, where students grow in scholarship, virtue, and leadership.

A Structured Academic Program

Students complete a full daily schedule of core coursework:

  • Mathematics
  • Literature
  • Language (Spelling, Grammar & Composition)
  • Social Studies
  • Science
  • Theology

Instruction emphasizes close reading, structured discussion, formal writing, and evidence-based reasoning. Students analyze primary sources, construct and revise arguments, and articulate ideas clearly and respectfully.

Academic expectations increase each year. Students are expected to:

  • Manage assignments independently
  • Meet deadlines consistently
  • Participate thoughtfully in discussions
  • Seek clarification and advocate for their learning

Clear standards and consistent accountability define the academic culture.

Distinctives

  • Literature and Language are taught as separate courses, allowing depth in both textual analysis and formal writing.
  • Students master grammar, structured composition, thesis development, citation, and persuasive and analytical writing.
  • Literature studies include novels and short stories with focused analysis of theme, irony, setting, and character.
  • Mathematics instruction is flexibly adapted to cohort needs, offering both acceleration and targeted support.

Experienced & Dedicated Faculty

  • Small class sizes allow for direct feedback and individualized guidance.

  • Teachers instruct students for three or more years, developing a deep understanding of each student’s strengths, challenges, and learning style.

Catholic Intellectual Formation

Faith integrates the subject areas, and informs every aspect of the academic experience.

  • Theology includes Sacred Scripture, Church teaching, and moral reasoning.
  • History, literature, Spanish, art, and civic study are taught through a Catholic worldview emphasizing truth, human dignity, connections to other disciplines and responsibility.
  • In Science class, student exploration of the created world cultivates wonder at the complexity and harmony God has built into the universe.
  • Students attend Mass regularly, participate in liturgical leadership, engage in service grounded in Catholic social teaching, and cultivate habits of virtue and moral discernment.

Intellectual growth and spiritual formation develop together.

Leadership & Extracurriculars

Leadership is intentionally cultivated in grades 6–8.

Opportunities include:

  • Student Ambassadors
  • Youth in Government
  • Model United Nations
  • Liturgical leadership roles
  • Service initiatives
  • Peer mentoring and tutoring

Students may also participate in athletics and compete in the Catholic Athletic Association (CAA),
academic competitions, faculty-sponsored clubs, music, and performance arts. Leadership roles
are earned through demonstrated responsibility, academic standing, and conduct.

Music Program

All middle school students participate in general music and concerts.

Students may also join:

  • Liturgical Choir (Grades 3–8) — sings monthly at school Masses
  • Symphony & Private Lessons (Grades 5–8) — instrumental instruction and ensemble performance
