Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are a valuable resource in our school. Watch classroom and school newsletters and the email announcements for opportunities to match your time, talent and skills. Your hours should be recorded in the office volunteer box. Each family is expected to give 20 hours of volunteer time yearly or be billed $10 an hour at the end of the year as part of their tuition package.

POSITION TITLE: Advancement & ROOTS Steering Group

REPORTS TO: Steering Group Chair, who is a member of the School Advisory Council

PURPOSE: Retention is the primary focus of this committee.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Act as a role model, exhibiting respectful behavior to all students while treating all students equally.

There are two main targets:

  • Advancement concentrates on keeping messages/communications from the school to families current. This would include overview of the web-sites materials, social media and other methods of communication, ensuring that messages are relevant, consistent with our mission, and updated.
  • Secondly, this steering group will center attention on developing the “community” or family familiarity within our school community, primarily within the pre-k through second grade portion of our population. The group will organize activities that allow an atmosphere for families to get to know one another and advance a sense of belonging to the overall school community.  This community will reach out to alumni as a resource for strength building as well as create strong connections to the supporting parishes.  Monthly updates to the SAC are required as part of this group’s functional structure.

QUALIFICATIONS:

All volunteers are required to attend VIRTUS training, pass a criminal background check, and sign the Code of Conduct Statement.

POSITION TITLE: Book Fair Volunteer

REPORTS TO: Library Aide

PURPOSE:  Help with the annual school Book Fair.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Act as a role model, exhibiting respectful behavior to all students while treating all students equally. Volunteers may set up before the sale, sell books during the Book Fair and/or pack up books when the sale is completed. Training, schedules and supervision will be provided by the Library Aide.

QUALIFICATIONS:

All volunteers are required to attend VIRTUS training, pass a criminal background check, and sign the Code of Conduct Statement.  If volunteering to sell books, the credit portion of the Background check must be completed.  

TIME COMMITMENT: Approximately 2 hours per shift.

WHEN AND WHERE:  Per schedule, in the school Library.

POSITION TITLE: Booster Club

REPORTS TO: Athletic Director

PURPOSE: The Frassati Catholic Academy Booster Club raises funds to supplement the athletic department. These funds are used for athletic learning opportunities (e.g. clinics), coach training, uniforms and equipment, and scholarships to keep athletic fees affordable. Each of these expense items strengthens the learning environment and promotes a well-rounded experience, especially for those who may not otherwise participate in athletics.

MISSION AND OBJECTIVES:

The Frassati Catholic Academy Booster Club Mission is to support and promote athletic excellence and Catholic values through good sportsmanship and character-building relationships among athletes, coaches and parents.

Booster Club objectives:

  • Promoting and encouraging school spirit and participation in athletics
  • Supporting and promoting a high standard of integrity and good sportsmanship in all athletic activities
  • Supporting the Athletic Director, coaches and athletes with fundraising efforts and organizing volunteers to benefit Frassati Catholic Academy athletics.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as a role model, exhibiting respectful behavior to all students while treating all students equally.
  • Attend regular Booster Club meetings
  • Be an active member by leading and participating in fundraising volunteer opportunities

QUALIFICATIONS:

All volunteers are required to attend VIRTUS training, pass a criminal background check, and sign the Code of Conduct Statement. 

TIME COMMITMENT: Monthly meeting: 1 hour, Fundraising opportunities: varies depending on event.

WHEN AND WHERE: Activities will be held during the school year and located at Frassati Catholic Academy and within the White Bear Lake community.

POSITION TITLE:  Co-Curricular Steering Group

REPORTS TO: Steering Group Chair, Board of Directors and SAC

PURPOSE: Working with Principal and reporting monthly to the School Advisory Council, this steering group’s primary focus is to maintain and recommend programs that enhance the academic experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Act as a role model, exhibiting respectful behavior to all students while treating all students equally.

This steering group will:

  • Work with the school’s booster club, coaches, and teachers to identify needs and inventory assets such as athletic equipment, athletic uniforms, academic club, equipment and resources.
  • Work with other steering groups to promote the school.

QUALIFICATIONS:

All volunteers are required to attend VIRTUS training, pass a criminal background check, and sign the Code of Conduct Statement.

TIME COMMITMENT: Meetings will vary depending upon need to accomplish stated goals.

POSITION TITLE:  Field Trip Volunteer Chaperones

REPORTS TO: Classroom Teacher

PURPOSE: Class field trips are planned for the educational value and enjoyment they offer our students. Volunteer chaperones are important to the safety and success of a trip. All school rules are enforced unless the principal or teacher explicitly state otherwise. Classroom teachers will provide direction and specific information related to the Field Trip.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Act as a role model, exhibiting respectful behavior to all students while treating all students equally.

  • Supervision is both mental and physical. Chaperones must stay with their assigned group with attention always on their assigned students.
  • Each parent is responsible for being in attendance on time, according the schedule provided by the teacher. If a parent is unable to attend, advance notice should be given to the teacher so a substitute can be contacted in time.

QUALIFICATIONS:

All volunteers are required to attend VIRTUS training, pass a criminal background check, and sign the Code of Conduct Statement. 

TIME COMMITMENT:     Dependent upon event and as noted in schedule.

WHEN AND WHERE:         Times vary. All Field Trips originate and end at school.

POSITION TITLE:  Finance Steering Group

REPORTS TO: Steering Group Chair, SAC and Board of Directors

PURPOSE: Assist Principal and School Administration  to develop and monitor financial budget and financial systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ÿ Work directly with Principal and the Frassati Catholic Academy’s Board of Directors to analyze current budgets and forecast expenditures for the purpose of developing a working budget.
  • Ÿ Assist the Fundraising Steering Group to develop and maintain accounting structures for the annual fundraising initiatives (Fall Marathon, Polar Plunge, and Spring Gala).
  • Ÿ Participate in Steering Group meetings as required throughout the school year and provide monthly reports to SAC.

QUALIFICATIONS: All volunteers are required to attend VIRTUS training, pass a criminal background check, and sign a Code of Conduct Statement. 

TIME COMMITMENT: As required to complete the budget and monitoring duties in a timely manner.

POSITION TITLE: First Lego League Coach

REPORTS TO: Principal

PURPOSE: Connect Frassati Catholic Academy students to real-world engineering challenges by building LEGO-based robots to complete tasks on a thematic playing surface. Teams are guided by their imaginations and adult coaches, discover exciting career possibilities and, through the process, learn to make positive contributions to society.

OBJECTIVES:

Provide elementary and middle-school students the opportunity to:

  • Design, build, test and program robots using LEGO MINDSTORMS® technology
  • Apply real-world math and science concepts
  • Research challenges facing today’s scientists
  • Learn critical thinking, team-building and presentation skills participate in tournaments and celebrations

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as a role model, exhibiting respectful behavior to all students while treating all students equally.
  • Register for and coordinate competition participation.
  • Coordinate monthly meetings to work on the project.

QUALIFICATIONS:

All volunteers are required to attend VIRTUS training, pass a criminal background check, and sign the Code of Conduct Statement. 

TIME COMMITMENT:

FLL teams typically meet twice per week for 2 ½ hours.

Competition event is held between November and January.

WHEN AND WHERE: Preparation for the challenge at Frassati Catholic Academy and within the White Bear Lake community. Competition site varies depending on registration.

POSITION TITLE:  Fundraising Steering Group

REPORTS TO: Steering Group Chair, Board of Directors and SAC

PURPOSE: The function of this steering group is to ensure continuity among our school’s fundraising initiatives (Fall Marathon, Polar Plunge, and Spring Gala). This group’s chair will work as the liaison to the Principal and the individual fundraising chairs.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Act as a role model, exhibiting respectful behavior to all students while treating all students equally.

The fundraising steering group will ensure that consistent forms of communication are being applied, financial diligence is utilized, reporting is transparent, and general coordination is managed from a supportive point of contact dedicated to the success of fundraising. The Chair will report monthly to the School Advisory Council and will coordinate with various other groups to ensure uniformity in our fundraising efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS: All volunteers are required to attend VIRTUS training, pass a criminal background check, and sign the Code of Conduct Statement.

WHEN AND WHERE: TBD at Frassati Catholic Academy

POSITION TITLE: Hot Lunch Dishwasher

REPORTS TO: Kitchen Manager

PURPOSE: Wash dishes used to prepare and serve lunch as well as the trays and silverware used by the students.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Act as a role model, exhibiting respectful behavior to all students while treating all students equally. Wash and put away dishes, wipe down dishwasher and area around the dishwasher.

QUALIFICATIONS:

All volunteers are required to attend VIRTUS training, pass a criminal background check, and sign the Code of Conduct Statement. 

Good interaction with students. Volunteer must be willing to work hard and able to do some heavy lifting.

TIME COMMITMENT: 2-3 hours

WHEN AND WHERE:  10:30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. Monday–Friday, Kohler Hall kitchen.

POSITION TITLE:  Hot Lunch Volunteer

REPORTS TO: Kitchen Manager

PURPOSE: Provide assistance over the lunch period.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Act as a role model, exhibiting respectful behavior to all students while treating all students equally. Assist by serving lunch to students. Help with clean up including washing tables, gathering napkins and silverware.

QUALIFICATIONS:

All volunteers are required to attend VIRTUS training, pass a criminal background check, and sign the Code of Conduct Statement. 

Good attitude, willingness to work hard and be flexible.

TIME COMMITMENT: 2 to 2-1/2 hours.

WHEN AND WHERE: 10:30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. Monday – Friday, Kohler Hall kitchen.

POSITION TITLE: Library Volunteer

REPORTS TO: Library Aide

PURPOSE: Provide assistance to the Library Aide

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Act as a role model, exhibiting respectful behavior to all students while treating all students equally. Sort and shelf library books as needed. Assist students checking books out and shelving returned books. Assist with processing new and old books.

QUALIFICATIONS:

All volunteers are required to attend VIRTUS training, pass a criminal background check, and sign the Code of Conduct Statement. 

This job will require a comfort level working with the Dewey Decimal System and basic compute knowledge.

TIME COMMITMENT: 1-2 hours/week

WHEN AND WHERE:  As scheduled, in the school Library.

POSITION TITLE: Marketing Steering Group Volunteer

REPORTS TO: Steering Group Chair and Principal

PURPOSE: Marketing is a critical part of our school’s vitality. This group will produce a marketing plan for the year that will define key initiatives geared toward increasing recognition of our school and its mission.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Act as a role model, exhibiting respectful behavior to all students while treating all students equally.

This steering group will:

  • Produce a marketing plan for the year that will define key initiatives geared toward increasing recognition of our school and its mission.
  • Develop marketing materials such as flyers, tri-fold brochures and material for social media.
  • Partner with other committees for events and will report to the SAC monthly.
  • Be responsible for establishing a marketing strategy/approach and ensuring that it is consistent throughout various delivery methods.

A portion of this group will be devoted to event planning that will directly support the overall goal of the steering group.

The make-up of this group may include a photographer as well as other specialty roles that enhance the ability to be nimble in marketing styles and applications.

All material produced by the group will be coordinated through the Principal for final approval and will be shared with the SAC in the form of monthly updates.

QUALIFICATIONS: All volunteers are required to attend VIRTUS training, pass a criminal background check, and sign the Code of Conduct Statement. 

TIME COMMITMENT: Hours may vary from year to year, but it can be expected that 60-75 hours annually will be anticipated. This includes an average of 12 meetings and event participation.

WHEN AND WHERE: When will be dictated by specific events and meeting schedule. Meetings will be at Frassati Catholic Academy.

New Family Mentor

Purpose: Frassati Catholic Academy would like to welcome students and their families at any grade level to our community by connecting them with a FCA mentor family.  These veteran families will be an essential contact to new families as they experience their first year at FCA.

Responsibilities:

  • Call and welcome your mentee family.
  • Meet with mentee family twice in summer, if possible.  Connect with mentee family during back to school night.
  • Communicate regularly with mentee family during school year and invite or attend school/community events with them.
  • Be available as a parent contact/liaison to prospective families.

Room Parent

Purpose:  A room parent is the lead volunteer in a classroom who builds a bridge between the teacher and the parents.  A room parent provides a communication line between the teacher, the other parents, school administration, and/or the community.  Additionally, they will help to build school community and spirit!

Responsibilities:

  • Meet with the Marketing & Advancement committee at the beginning of the school year.
  • Work effectively with your classroom teacher to aide in classroom needs.
  • Assist in classroom activities.
  • Manage the Grade Level Facebook page as a moderator of content and also add school announcements, events and important reminders.
  • Encourage families to gather outside of school and at school/community events.
  • Organize teacher appreciation (May).

POSITION TITLE:  Spring Gala Committee

REPORTS TO:         Spring Gala Chair

PURPOSE:    Spring Gala is our school’s largest fundraiser. It is an evening affair for adults which features dinner, a silent auction and live auction. In addition to raising general school funds, a special fund-a-need is identified. In the past, these funds have benefited playground equipment, SmartBoards, wi-fi throughout the school, and student technology devices.

The Spring Gala Committee is composed of several sub-committees, addressing the various components of the event. Each sub-committee has a Chair as well as a book outlining the duties of that group. The committee continually updates the book as changes are made for that and future events, offering incoming members a blueprint for action for the following year.

Volunteer opportunities are available on the following subcommittees: Communications/Marketing, Raffles, Kids Project, Food & Beverage, Live Auction, Solicitation for Donations, Sponsorship, Decorating, Big Night, Marketing Catalog, Silent Auction Set Up, Volunteer Coordinator, Check Out and Check In.

Participate in monthly committee meetings as needed.

WHEN AND WHERE: October through May, at Frassati Catholic Academy.

POSITION TITLE:  Strategic Planning Steering Group

REPORTS TO: Principal, Board of Directors and SAC

PURPOSE: The primary focus of this steering group is to work with the Principal to organize, develop, and maintain reportable data associated with the on-going school accreditation.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Act as a role model, exhibiting respectful behavior to all students while treating all students equally.

This group will:

  • Request information from all other committees on a periodic basis and will report accreditation status monthly to the SAC.
  • Review school policies and processes on an annual basis with the school administration.
  • Take on special projects associated with the academic and business policies of the school.

QUALIFICATIONS: All volunteers are required to attend VIRTUS training, pass a criminal background check, and sign the Code of Conduct Statement.

TIME COMMITMENT: As needed for specific projects.

POSITION TITLE: Teacher’s Aide

REPORTS TO: Teacher

PURPOSE: To offer assistance to the Teacher.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Act as a role model, exhibiting respectful behavior to all students while treating all students equally. Volunteer duties in this role vary based on the needs and requirements of each individual teacher. Training, scheduling, and other responsibilities will be detailed by teacher. There is a wide range of responsibilities, specific to any classroom, from copying/laminating to reading to the children.

QUALIFICATIONS:

All volunteers are required to attend VIRTUS training, pass a criminal background check, and sign the Code of Conduct Statement. 

The volunteer must be prepared to handle a wide variety of duties.

TIME COMMITMENT: As determined by Teacher and Volunteer.

WHEN AND WHERE:  Schedule to be determined. Volunteer should report to assigned classroom at the regularly scheduled time.

POSITION TITLE: Team Coach/Assistant Coach

REPORTS TO: Athletic Director

PURPOSE: To organize team practices and guide teams through drills and games. It is not about winning or losing, it is about encouraging participants to gain and develop skills, knowledge, and techniques while inspiring confidence in the athletes you coach.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Act as a role model, exhibiting respectful behavior to all students while treating all students equally. Coach will act as building supervisor during games or practices.

QUALIFICATIONS:

All volunteers must attend VIRTUS training, pass a criminal background check, and sign the Code of Conduct Statement. 

Possess the desire to help teams learn necessary sport related skills. Be willing to work with and help all team members.

Fall:                Running, Soccer, Volleyball

Winter:            Basketball, Hockey, Ski Club, Swimming

Spring:             Baseball, Golf Day, Softball, Track

TIME COMMITMENT: Seasons vary in length; winter sports are the longest. Practices may be after school, early evenings, or weekends, depending upon the sport.

WHEN AND WHERE: Varies.

POSITION TITLE: Technology Steering Group

REPORTS TO: Principal, SAC and Board of Directors

PURPOSE: The focus of this steering group is to inventory and maintain a current log of the technology assets of the school; demonstrating owned and leased equipment, life expectancy and replacement plans to ensure currency from a technology perspective.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Act as a role model, exhibiting respectful behavior to all students while treating all students equally.

This committee will report monthly to the SAC, and will work with the Principal as well as other groups as required throughout the year. They will also make recommendations for procurements, based on industry standards on all aspects of the schools technology spectrum.

QUALIFICATIONS:

All volunteers are required to attend VIRTUS training, pass a criminal background check, and sign the Code of Conduct Statement.

TIME COMMITMENT: As required to complete the technology framework and monitor progress in a timely manner.
