After last year’s virtual 5K left us all missing time together as a community, our 2021 event was all about celebrating our time together as one big Falcon family!
We cranked up the tunes, cheered for runners and walkers of all ages, and enjoyed time on the fields to catch up, relax and play.
Launched five years ago by two running-enthusiast parents, the Frassati 5K has always served as our school’s fall fundraiser, where we as a community can rally together to fundraise for our community as a community. It’s an all-hands-on-deck initiative where local businesses support us via sponsorship, family, friends, and neighbors are recruited to join a student’s race team, and lastly, where supporters make donations to a team name to help that family further their fundraising efforts.
This event has steadily grown year-over-year, and 2021 crushed every goal imaginable! With 557 race registrations, 14 sponsors, and over $40,000 raised, we owe each and every member of our community a very large and loud – THANK YOU!
The money that we raised will make a big difference in our operating budget for the year ahead and will allow us to further our mission, impacting students’ lives in significant ways!
Before we share a look at the pictures from the big event, we want to highlight our amazing sponsors:
And one last time, because we mean it so very much, to our students, families, parishioners, neighbors, and friends, thank you for the many ways you show up and support the success of Frassati Catholic Academy!
Now, for a few highlights from our Friday, October 8, fun-filled event:
We are beyond excited to gather as a community this Friday for our 2021 5K!
Below is an overview of the various details you will need to know as you head into race day:
Race packets will be distributed to the students on Thursday.
If you registered for the race, but do not have a student at Frassati, you can collect your race packet one of two ways:
At 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 8, the ‘Welcome Table’ will have all remaining packets that were not distributed to the students. You are welcome to pick up your packet at this time!
Otherwise, please email Monica Kenney and coordinate a separate time and date to secure your materials.
Over 500 people are registered to participate in Friday’s event, so please be sure to plan your parking strategy and arrive early!
Race participants are welcome to park in the staff parking lot on the north side of the school, in the St. Mary of the Lake church parking lot, or on the streets surrounding the school. However, please avoid parking on the course streets.
The Frassati parking lot will be closed for the event.
If you have a little one participating in the Little Tyke Fun Run, please head to the ‘B’ doors at Frassati at 3:20 p.m. Little Tyke Runners will be divided into two groups, one for those running a 1/2 mile race and the second will be for those running a 1/4 mile race.
The distance that your Little Tyke completes is fully up to you and your little runner!
The whistle will blow at 3:30 p.m. for the 1/2 mile racers to begin their laps. At 3:40 p.m. the 1/4 mile racers will begin their laps.
The Little Tyke Runners will be given their lap count details prior to the whistle being blown, but you may want to help them count their laps as they are completed.
Since this is truly a fun run, we are encouraging the Little Tykes to simply have fun and do the best they can. We will not be monitoring how many laps they complete or how long it takes them to complete their laps.
Each Little Tyke will receive a participation prize. 😉
Starting at 3:45 p.m on Friday, October 8, 5K participants are asked to head to the starting line in the Frassati parking lot, which will be broken up into sections, and marked by cones.
Those who plan to run the entire course are asked to go to the front of the group. Those who plan to do a combination of running and walking on the course are asked to go to the middle. And stroller pushers and walkers are asked to go towards the back of the pack.
At 3:50 p.m. we will have opening remarks, a prayer from Father Talbot, the national anthem, and we will close with a countdown to takeoff.
The course will be clearly marked and labeled, with safety guards stationed at each of our four turns on the course. We will also have a police officer stationed at the 4th Street and Wood Avenue intersection to assist at the crosswalk. Please review the 5K course here.
There will be water available at the 2-mile marker, near Podvin Park.
You will finish your race right where you began, and race times will be shared shortly after.
Following the race, you are invited to join us back on campus for a post-race gathering!
The Pig Approved BBQ truck will be on-site, and you can find their food truck menu here. They accept, cash, credit, Google, and Apple pay.
Boppas Popcorn Shack is the other vendor who will be on-site Friday night, serving fresh Kettle Corn popped on sight for $5.00 per bag. Boppas takes cash only.
You are welcome to bring your own picnic, but ask you to stick to alcohol-free drinks on campus.
While our DJ keeps the beats playing until sunset, please visit with friends, enjoy the playground and hang out!
We will bring extra playground fun out to the fields, but please feel free to bring lawn games, lawn chairs, a picnic blanket, or anything else you would like while you sit back and enjoy the fall evening.
We will have the ‘B’ doors unlocked so that attendees can use those bathrooms and/or water fountains as needed.

Team pages are a way for you to further your contribution to the 5K. Simply email your team name and a picture of your choosing to [email protected] and we will set up your team page right away!
Then, share this link with people from your network, direct them to register for a bid number using the ‘Register Now’ button on the main 5K landing page. Once registered, supporters can log into their ClickBid account and make a donation to your team.
Please note that ClickBid registration is unique to each specific event and each participant has to re-register as new events are launched. An individual must be logged in to ClickBid to submit a donation, otherwise, a preview is displayed without a donation option.
Team pages are optional, but are an incredible way to rally supporters from anywhere and everywhere to help us further our mission!
When one of your contacts registers for your team, instruct them to note your team name in the box above the sponsorship options, labeled: PLEASE TELL US WHAT TEAM YOU ARE ON.
Each and every registration that is credited to your team name, will be credited to a Frassati Family’s Sycamore account and be applied towards your annual Family Fundraising Commitment.
Likewise, every donation that is received via your team page will also be credited to a Frassati Family’s Sycamore account and be applied towards your annual Family Fundraising Commitment.
Following the race, we are hosting a gathering on campus complete with a DJ, lawn games, and two food trucks – Pig Approved BBQ and Boppas Popcorn Shack!
For more information on the timeline between now and race day, see here.
In 2020, we raised over $28,000 with 445 race entries and 12 sponsors. We are pushing to surpass those numbers, but need your help!
The ways you can help us with our 2021 fall fundraising goals are to:
At Frassati we have two fundraising events each year, our Fall 5K and Spring Gala. It is through these two events that we are able to raise budget-relieving support, that strengthens our ability to enhance our scholarship packages, enrollment openings, curriculum, extracurricular activities and so much more! Please help us reach our 5K goal and support this great tradition today!

As mentioned on the flyer in our ‘Back to School’ packets, families have a unique opportunity to claim their team name early, recruit team members, and register by Friday, September 10 to earn an ‘Out of Uniform’ pass for each Frassati student on the team.
Simply fill out the form you received in your ‘Back to School’ packet, attach a check to the sheet, and return it to the main office by end of the day, Friday, September 10.
Those who earn ‘Out of Uniform’ passes will receive them on Friday, September 17.
Virtual registration will go live on Wednesday, September 8, and is open to everyone! And we mean EVERY ONE!
When the registration site goes live, this post will be updated to include that registration link.
Please note, that while this year’s event is in-person, those who would like to complete a virtual run (as we did in 2020) are welcome to do so! Simply register online, email Monica Kenney to coordinate your packet pick up, and on Friday, October 8, select your course and get after it! Please be sure to tag us on Instagram and Facebook and use the hashtag #fca5K2021 so we can celebrate your hard work!
Whether it is your business, a friend or family member’s, or just a local favorite, recruiting a Frassati 5K sponsor is a great way to further our mission, while engaging the community in bigger and better ways! Plus, if you have kindergarten through eighth-grade students registered, the amount of money raised through this referral will be counted towards your annual family fundraising commitment!
Send your referral to bit.ly/215Ksponsor today! On the registration page, simply have your referral enter your last name in the notes section, and we will credit your Sycamore account!
Another option is for a family to sign on as a sponsor. If you feel passionate about the Frassati community and experience, signing on as a sponsor in your family’s last name is a great way to show your support! To learn more about this opportunity, email Monica Kenney.
Please note, that to be included on the 5K shirts and promotional materials, we are asking sponsors to submit their registration by Friday, September 24.
Race participants are welcome to register up until 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 8. However, in order to be counted in the t-shirt order and to receive your race shirt, you will need to submit your registration by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 24.
While the 5K is truly a fun run, welcome to runners and walkers of all ages and skill levels, we understand that younger kids may want to run a race that is all about them! So at 3:30 p.m. on the Frassati soccer fields, kids ten and younger are welcome to complete a smaller run course, known as the Little Tyke Fun Run. Those who register for this option will still receive a 5K shirt.
For those participating in the 5K, we ask that you take your place at the starting line by 3:45 p.m. for the opening prayer and national anthem.
The 5K course is a beautiful 3.2 mile run through our neighboring community. The course is blocked off by a Course Marshall, clearly marked for turns, and a water station will be set up at the 2-mile marker. You can review the course map here.
For more information on the schedule, please see the full lineup of details here.
We are looking for volunteers for this event, so be sure to sign up here if you are available to help!
The t-shirt proof will go live here in early September.
Team names will go live on our registration page on Friday, September 10. Once your team is live, be sure to direct friends, family members, and co-workers to register for the 5K under your team name! Each entry fee will be credited towards your family’s annual fundraising commitment.
Have other questions we can answer?! Please feel free to email Monica Kenney!

Over the weekend, friends and family members from the Frassati community gathered to participate in the fourth annual Frassati 5k. Despite needing to move this gathering to a virtual event, our Falcons rallied and made this a benchmark year!
Four years ago, two parent volunteers brought their love for races to Frassati and launched the first ever 5k. Since then the event has grown year after year, and is now a fall tradition that everyone looks forward to.
Like many organizations have faced, navigating the nuances of a virtual event felt tricky at first. However, as we have seen from this amazing community since the start of the pandemic, Frassati students and family members quickly pivoted to participate in new ways. Teams were created, registration numbers climbed daily, and an amazing group of sponsors were secured.
As the race weekend approached, staff members distributed race packets to the classrooms, and Melissa Gacek, the lead volunteer coordinator for this event, made final preparations out on the race course.
On Friday afternoon, as students were leaving school for the day, they were greeted with an exciting surprise. In addition to the beautiful weather, students were able to run onto the field, cross through the start line arch, wave hello to the Mitsubishi bear, and receive a ‘good luck on your 5k’ cheer from Father Talbot.
Race participants were given the course map and were able to complete their 5k at any time, between Thursday, October 8 and Sunday, October 11.
As the virtual event came to a close, Frassati celebrated a hugely successful year with 445 race participants and over $28,000 raised, beating the previous year’s numbers.
The money raised from this event will help cover operational costs and is a flagship fundraising event that supports the ongoing success of Frassati Catholic Academy.
Over the weekend, many teams shared pictures from their virtual event. To see more, be sure to check the hashtags #frassati5k2020 #runforkidsandeducation #fcafalconpride #frassaticatholicacademy and #gofrassatifalcons on Facebook and Instagram. Here are a few from the tags:
On behalf of the entire Frassati community, we want to take a moment to share our gratitude and appreciation for everyone who participated in this year’s event. Thank you for all you did to make the 2020 5k a success, and for helping us reach new goals!
